Stephen’s use of English and Jane's typing

"I was not a little proud, too, to be able make a contribution of my own, other than the purely mechanical one of typing. Stephen’s use of English left much to be desired. His speech was scattered with expressions such as “you know” and “I mean”, and his written style showed little concern for the English language.
